The substitution of 'z' or 'x' for 'g' is common in Venice and Emilia-Romagna (Zanfrancesco, Zohane, Zohanbaptista) The Latin ending '-us' is generally replaced by '-o'. Most male names have their feminine form, using an '-a' ending instead of the masculine '-o'. Diminutive forms include '-ino', '-etto', '-ello', '-iano' for males, '-ella', '-etta' and '-ina', for females.
